Shortly after the end of The Books, Nick Zammuto began work on developing a new band, Zammuto. They stopped by the studios for a live performance just before their first tour was set to begin with Explosions in the Sky. Previous to this studio session they had only three live shows under their belt. It was a rare moment to hear the birth of a band. Set List: Groan Man, Don't Cry, Too Late to Topologize, Yay, Shape of Things to Come
KGNU DJ Shawna Sprouls has bluegrass band Ginny Mules in for a live studio session on April 15th, 2017.
Local Gold: Born in Accra, Ghana, Selasee grew up exposed to the colorful and energetic sounds of Highlife Music. With this exposure Selasee created his own style - a unique blend of Reggae and West African Highlife music. Selasee & The Fafa Family joined us for a live studio session.
One of Canada's finest musicians, Afie Jurvanen, is best known by his stage name Bahamas. Afie stopped by to perform live in our studios shortly after the release of "Bahamas is Afie". That evening would be the first time that Afie and his band were the headliners for a show in Denver. The concert sold out and Bahamas mesmerized the audience at the Larimer Lounge with a brilliant show.
Matthew Vasquez and Kelly Winrich of Delta Spirit stopped by our studio for a live performance and conversation. We were fortunate to be able to spend the morning with them as they were in between tour stops back in 2010 in support of their album "History from Below". We checked in with them about the late Howard Zinn, Irish proverbs, and a whole lot more.
Local Gold: The wonderful band Clouds and Mountains made their way into our studios for their first ever live radio session. I suppose you could call this the worldwide radio debut of the new songs from their forthcoming release, possibly called Ultrasound. We spoke with the members of the band about their songwriting process and the musical manifestation of their friendship.
Local Gold: With time running out on their crowd funding campaign to record their dream album, Chimney Choir made a triumphant return to our studios for a live performance of some of their new unrecorded material.
The one and only, Wayne "The Train" Hancock paid us a visit early one June morning back in 2010 for this studio session with our very own Doc Martin. He may be a little on the young side but we consider Wayne to be a living legend carrying the torch of Classic Country wherever his path may lead him.
Reykjavik Calling is an annual musical event that pairs Icelandic and Denver musicians together for a truly unique free concert showcase. The concert is part of the overall Taste of Iceland series of events that unfold every year at various locations in Denver. Since it began in 2012, the Rekyjavik Calling showcase has created some remarkable collaborative moments between artists who had met in person only days before. Explore our archives of this event and learn more about upcoming performances.
Local Gold: We had a chance to visit with Elephant Revival just before their two night stand at the Boulder Theater as part of their "Birds of a Feather Autumnal Ball" with Paper Bird and Horse Feathers. The band played a few tunes and spoke about the development of new material as well as the challenges of performing in a fuselage.
