Local Gold: Listen to an in-studio performance from Ark Life. Ark Life is an incredible band that formed when a trip through Denver on route to New York turned into a very extended stay. Lodged in Denver and unable to move, the land-locked Ark is staying put gathering some of Denver's best musicians and bringing them on board.
Local Gold: Check out a recent in-studio performance from Paper Bird. It's always wonderful to have Paper Bird stop by our studios. Over the years we've had the pleasure of watching the band evolve musically. Along the way they've taken time to set-up shop in KGNU's live performance studio to share their latest songs. This particular performance showcased music from their latest album "Rooms" just before a Red Rocks performance.
Local Gold: Local Gold features some of the amazing talent right here in Colorado. Over the years we've had the good fortune to have regular visits from Esmé Patterson. Whether she is joined with her friends in Paper Bird or sharing material from her solo projects, it is always a treat to have her on our airwaves. Her latest visit features material from her second solo album Woman to Woman.
Local Gold: The Blue Rider stopped by the KGNU studios for a live performance before the release of their vinyl EP. The band is named after either the controversial public art piece at Denver's International Airport or the fact that all of the band members have blue eyes. It's a mystery really. The one thing we do know for sure is this land-locked surf and psychedelic-infused local band kicks ass.
Local Gold: We had an opportunity to spend a little time with The Railsplitters on KGNU's Old Grass Gnu Grass show. They shared a few live tunes and spoke with Brian Eyster about how they collaborate as a band and their developing sound. Their first release is out and showcases their balanced and emerging style.
Local Gold: One fine Spring Sunday morning, Mollie O'Brien & Rich Moore made their way up to our studios to perform selections from their expansive discography and an unrecorded cover of a Dorothy Love Coates tune. We were excited to have them back live in our performance space.
Local Gold: Patrick Dethlefs & Eye and the Arrow stopped by for a live studio session on the Morning Sound Alternative with 99. When Patrick won studio time for $10 at a silent auction he asked Eye and the Arrow if they would be his band for the recording session. They had a different idea, "How about we give you $5 and we do a split EP?" - they still owe Patrick $5 but the resulting EP was the first showcase of a magical musical collaboration.
Local Gold: On a very hot Friday the 13th in June, the Denver-based group Men In Burka stopped by our Denver studios to perform a couple of tunes and share an unreleased track with us. They talked about the origins of their unique sound and the response they have received from audiences locally and Internationally.
Local Gold: Jeremy Mohney and his quartet made their way into the studios for a live session on the Kabaret show. The young group of musicians present a musical time machine to the past with their special blend of Hot Jazz and Swing. Here are some highlights from the broadcast. Hosted by George Figgs.
Local Gold: Madame Andrews passed away peacefully on Monday March 24th 2014. She was a Gospel legend who made Colorado her home. We were lucky to have her with us as a vibrant member of our musical community. She shared the message of Gospel music through her own performances and through the KGNU show she created over three decades ago - The Gospel Chime Hour.
