On March 31st 1964, a coup brought to Brazil a military dictatorship that lasted 21 years and was marked by violence and silence. During the period, a heavy censorship was placed on the society, impacting arts, media and science. Many artists had to leave the country and be creative to escape from the repression. A new segment of Brazilian music emerged “the protest songs”. In the week that the coup completes 57 years, DJ Ale Pacini brings you Brazilian songs and artists that were targeted by the government in Brazil during the dictatorship to help us to remember that: Dictatorship: never again!
