Liito — El Loco del Barrio Pocho — began his broadcasting career announcing circus performances from a loudspeaker on top of a pole in jungle clearings in southern Mexico in the 1970s.
Although he was born on the north side of the current border between the US and Mexico, he spoke only Spanish until he entered kindergarten, where, he says, the voices of children in the playground sounded like birds and small animals.
He has been a commercial radio Spanish-language DJ and also been involved in both English and Spanish language community radio in Colorado since 1982 and been broadcasting at KGNU since 1989.
He seeks to infect the audience with the musical Afro-Latin-Indigenous virus that will aid the transition as the US becomes the Latin American nation that it is its destiny.
