Every weekday morning, the Morning Sound Alternative fills your airwaves with a fresh blast of diverse and eclectic sounds.
The show keeps it on the mellow side. You'll hear everything from Ambient Electronics to Reggae to Folk. Whether it's classic recordings or brand new material, your neighborhood DJs will bring you a collection of good tunes to get you moving in the morning.
As noon draws near, the show will sometimes pick up the pace with some friskier tracks as we hand off to our pals on the Afternoon Sound Alternative.

RARE WOODY GUTHRIE! TUNE IN TOMORROW, MONDAY, MARCH 4, 2019, to the Morning Sound Alternative on KGNU Community Radio (88.5 FM: Boulder/ Denver + Denver: 1390 AM, Ft. Collins: 98.7 FM, Nederland: 93.7 FM & KGNU.org & AfterFM.com), 9:30 a.m.-12:00 noon MST, for my curated mix of indie, alternative, and world music, new and old. I'll be playing a previously unreleased Woody Guthrie tune from 1952, updated with new accompaniment from Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy. (Thanks to Cheryl Pawelski and the good folks at Omnivore Recordings.) This rare gem will be available exclusively for Record Store Day (April 13), and stand as not only an historic, but a musical document, released in conjunction and with full cooperation from the Woody Guthrie Archives. From the album’s notes: “These songs were mostly written well over half a century ago, but they are songs for our times to be sure.” (Yes, they do include two versions of "Beech Haven Ain’t My Home" aka "Old Man Trump!") It is truly time for this music to be heard.I’ll also be in-studio for live music and conversation with The Hydes, in advance of their sold out gig, The Hydes featuring Dave Curley at Five Points Live! on March 4, plus I'll play a lot of brand new music, including William Tyler (w/ Bill Frisell), Jessica Pratt, The Felice Brothers, and Toro y Moi, and old faves by Mink DeVille, Half Waif, Jill Sobule, Mercury Rev feat. Lucinda Williams & Phoebe Bridgers, and Better Oblivion Community Center, and a memory of the late Ken Nordine and Peter Tork. Tune in for all that and some surprises, and please reach out during the show to say “Hi, I’m listening…” by emailing me directly in the studio via DJ@KGNU.org
