For more than 50 years, Del McCoury's music has defined authenticity for hardcore bluegrass fans. To close the opening night of the 41st RockyGrass, the Del McCoury Band took the stage for a stellar evening and one giant shooting star that made it's way across the sky during the second encore. Every year since 2008, we have been broadcasting live from RockyGrass. Our festival coverage expanded in 2012 to offer selected highlights from our broadcasts online. We hope you enjoy these archives.
We were lucky enough to have a visit from Dave Rawlings Machine in our studios. They were in between a two night run at the Boulder Theater and had enough time in their schedule for a live studio session. "The Machine" was breaking in a new line up featuring Dave Rawlings, Gillian Welch, Willie Watson, Paul Kowert, and John Paul Jones. They spoke about their harmonies, the forgotten lyrics of This Land Is Your Land, and the challenges of getting their schedules to align.
RockyGrass Archives 2013: The one and only Tim O'Brien took the stage Friday night with an incredibly hot band made up of guitarist Bryan Sutton, banjoist Noam Pikelny, fiddler Casey Driessen, and bassist Mike Bub. It was a stellar set and one of the many highlights of Friday's line up.
RockyGrass Archives 2012: Unforgettable Friday night heroics from Punch Brothers at RockyGrass. Throughout the evening the gentlemen of this super group were dazzling. I'm not sure anyone saw the Beck cover coming, but as Chris Thile says, "Beck is Bluegrass!" - especially when you play him like that. Who's feeling young now?
