Kamran Khan and Josh "Strange" Powers of the Denver-based group Men In Burka stopped by our Denver studios to perform a couple of tunes and share an unreleased track with us. They talked about the origins of their unique sound and the response they have received from audiences locally and Internationally. We spoke with them in advance of their show at The Hi-Dive on June 18, 2014. Barry Gilbert was the host on a hot Friday the 13th in June. (Archive from 6/13/14)
DJ Olive was the headliner at our 2009 Fundraising concert called Signal Strength. Before the event he stopped by the studios for a live set and interview. DJ Olive is an incredible selector and producer with a unique and abstract approach to dance music. His live sets are remarkable and at the Signal Strength fundraiser the room was electric as his set unfolded. Enjoy an archive of the afternoon broadcast.
The original dance party gets an update from A Tribe Called Red. Find out how Electric Pow Wow is taking over the planet. A Tribe Called Red is a trio of Canadian DJs from Ottawa. Since 2008 they have been creating their own electronic sub-genere, electric pow wow, and are quickly emerging as a musical and political force. KGNU caught up with the members of the group, Bear Witness, DJ NDN, and Canadian DMC champ, DJ Shub by phone from Bear's home in Ottawa.
