Matt Malick show archive and podcasts on afterfm.com. Originally a mid-westerner, I've called Colorado home for nearly 30 years. I started playing music when I was 9 years old and like most mid-western kids I was weaned on rock and roll and cheap beer, but gravitated towards the amazing St. Louis jazz scene as I got older. Music was a huge part of my high school and college culture, but all the cool kids listened to Coletrane, right? Ultimately I became interested in the other American, improvisational form of music...bluegrass. I started my radio experience at KBUT in Crested Butte where I hosted a weekly 12-year folk and bluegrass show and started with KGNU in 2015 hosting Highway 322 and Old Grass Gnu Grass. I am passionate about music and if you see me roaming around Rockgrass, I'm always willing to chat about bluegrass and cool instruments. Highway 322: During Highway 322, you can expect to hear a newer, sometimes edgier flavor of folk and Americana on my show. Although I cover classics from John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, and Emmy Lou, the new sounds of Tyler Childers, Darrel Scott, I’m with Her, and Jason Isbell rounds out the show. Old Grass, Gnu Grass: My Old Grass Gnu Grass shows rattle down the rutted backroads of traditional bluegrass and old-time, through the classic mash, and ends up with the innovative sound coming from a new crop of players and artists carrying the tradition in their own way...all with a strong showing from our great Colorado bluegrass scene. My show tips it’s hat to innovators such as Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, and Flatt & Scruggs; moves through artists like the Bluegrass Album Band, Del McCoury Band, Larry Sparks, Hot Rize, and Sister Sadie; and wraps up with the cutting edge from the Travelin’ McCoury’s, Billy Strings, the Infamous Stringdusters, and Mile Twelve. Our friends and neighbors from the Blue Canyon Boys, Masontown, and Chain Station round out the show. Give it a listen…I’ll see ya next time. Shows I host: Highway 322 / Old Grass Gnu Grass
