Biography: I'm from Kentuckiana, but I usually claim Kentucky because Indiana is not as pretty, and rednecks are scarier than hillbillies. I've been singing since I could talk, and was raised on MTV and pop radio, so music has always been around. I was always in choir, band, musical theater, and theater as a whole, so I grew up on a stage performing. I received a double degree in Theater and English from Berea College in dry county Berea, Kentucky and then never stepped on a stage again. Instead, I moved to a Buddhist retreat center in the mountains and spent my life meditating, working, contemplating, hiking, singing under aspen trees with my guitar, and trying to figure out how to be of benefit in a world wrought with suffering and impermanence. When I moved to Boulder I was seeking a community and had always been drawn to KGNU when living here or passing through, so I showed up at orientation and was volunteering almost instantly. I didn't intend to become a DJ, but enough people asked me if I was going to, that it started a quickly growing seed in my overactive mind... and within months I was curating 3-hour chunks of music for the wee hours of the night, and I loved it. I work as a massage therapist, and also part-time as the Tickets and Presents Coordinator at KGNU, and hosting radio shows is my current creative outlet. I still go through bouts of painting and drawing abstractions, writing, and singing music. My 10-year-old is an inspiration as he's been writing songs since he was 3, wrote 6 books last year, and he's a fearless, creative dynamo.
During my shows, listeners can expect to hear an eclectic mix that spans across genres. I'm drawn more toward the mood of a song than the lyrics generally, like a soundtrack to feel life potently rather than a commentary. But I like commentaries too, especially if it's about the struggle of being a human being on this spinning orb.
